I work with adults of all ages coping with anxiety, depression, relationships, loss, identity, trauma, racial issues.
Young adults can face specific issues such as working through friendship and relationship difficulties, coping with job searching, student life, family relationships, racism, identity issues.
Older adults often seek therapy as they cope with life changes such as retirement, health issues, loneliness, looking for purpose, feeling invisible, facing loss.
Diversity and Difference
Often, people from diverse backgrounds find it difficult to be understood in their lived experience.
Examples of issues that come up in the lived experience of ethnic difference are:
- racism
- marginalisation
- conscious and sub-conscious bias
- inter-generational cultural difficulties
- older adults making sense of identity, belonging and purpose
- dual-heritage families
Belonging to a minority background carries additional stress and it can be easier to speak to a therapist from a minority background who can help you make sense of how cultural and societal expectations have shaped you. I can help you to understand yourself better and get to the root of patterns of behaviour that may have developed to help cope with difficult experiences.
